Trump's All-Out Assault on American Democracy Has Begun
Team Resist is a group of individuals that are determined and committed to stop Donald Trump’s dangerous authoritarianism. He has viciously and repeatedly inflamed peoples’ anger toward immigrants, religious minorities, and refugees. He has undermined or attacked individuals who publicly stand up to him and his imbecilic and treacherous policies. Trump has attacked our allies and embraced our enemies. He vows to take away the entitlements that we, as Americans, have paid for, and rely on to live. He has pledged to veto a national abortion ban and take away women’s reproductive rights. Trump has hired compliant buffoons that are not qualified for the job.
“The most important challenge now is for the opposition to be unified and strategic. Trump will be vulgar, irritating, impulsive, adolescent, narcissistic. The prospect of such a man wielding state power is terrifying,” says Robert Kuttner from the The American Prospect.
This dominance unsettles and destabilizes American democracy. Trump is a would-be authoritarian with a single overriding impulse — to help himself above all else. These are plans of an authoritarian and are not the strategies of the democracy we live in.
We must be strong. We must resist if we are to save our democracy for us and future generations.

Congressional Democrats have been front and center at recent rallies, blasting the Trump administration's slash-and-burn remake of the federal government.
But at a protest in response to the furlough of nearly all employees of the U.S. Agency for International Development, lawmakers were at times drowned out by an agitated crowd chanting, "Do your job" and "What are you going to do about it?"
It highlights the tension that congressional Democrats face with a base pushing them to be more aggressive in combating the Trump administration — but with very limited power as the party in the minority.

One week in, the Trump administration is broadening its assault on the functions of government and shifting control of the federal purse strings further away from members of Congress.
President Donald Trump’s budget office Monday ordered a total freeze on “all federal financial assistance” that could be targeted under his previous executive orders pausing funding for a wide range of priorities — from domestic infrastructure and energy projects to diversity-related programs and foreign aid. The new order could affect billions of dollars in grants to state and local governments while causing disruptions to programs that benefit many households. There was also widespread confusion over how the memo would be implemented and whether it would face legal challenges.
